Awesome work! Read most of it last night.

I finished the Delaney Kids last night (about 1 am). Once I started reading it on Friday, I'd sneak back to it between chores and sometimes failed to return to those chores in a timely manner.
It's a powerful emotional story.

[D.S.] finished John's book in one (emotional) reading. An incredible story; very well told.

And from the book's back cover:

Books, all of them, take us on a journey.  We allow ourselves to be guided by the author, to a destination of his or her devising, with the hope that the destination will be worthwhile.  Sometimes, it is edifying.  ...  The Delaney Kids is just such a journey.  It is one man's story, of how he opened the door to the unknown that is adoption, and walked a path of discovery.  Along the way, we find insightful commentary into the common human condition, as well as, at times, boundless joy, and fearful heartaches.  This is a book for those unafraid to look ugly truth in the eye, and those who revel in the triumph of love and perseverance over adversity.  This is a journey worth taking.

From the Foreword:

...The story of the Delaney children is a universal story of family, love, acceptance and the unanswered questions that plague many relationships today...

John Standridge's research unraveled much of the history of Tennessee's "stolen" children and his insightful rendering of his journey from only child to beloved baby brother offers a glimpse into the importance of family at any age.  His story combines the best aspects of personal memory and unvarnished truths.  It is a story that you will not quickly forget as you find yourself shifting between tears of joy, tears of sadness and tears of empathy.  But John's greatest gift to his readers is a reminder that the human spirit is eternal. His positive nature remains unvanquished and the moments shared by the Delaney children enrich his life forever.  His personal history is the history of mankind.  We can - - and the Delaney children did - - overcome and persevere.

The Last Best Resort is the most entertaining and unique book I've read all year. This is exactly why I read fiction: a vicarious feeling of fantasy, romance, and adventure.
